๐Ÿ’ฅBeloved Stand-Up Comic & Frank Sinatraโ€™s Opening Act, Passed Away At 86

Tom Dreesen, the veteran stand-up comedian who toured for years with Frank Sinatra and appeared in films includingย Spaceballsย and the television movieย Columbo: Murder in Malibu, has died. He was 86.ย Dreesen died on Wednesday, according to a statement shared by his family on his officialย Facebookย page announcing the beloved entertainerโ€™s passing.

โ€œMy sister and I regret to inform you that our father passed away at 5:50 this morning.ย  He wanted you all to know how much joy you brought him through the years.ย  He said to tell you that he loved you all.ย  May he rest in peace.โ€

Dreesenโ€™s death came just one week after his final television appearance onย Comics Unleashed with Byron Allen, which aired on CBS. It marked his fourth appearance on the show since it debuted in 2006.

Dreesen had a longtime friendship with Byron Allen and served as a mentor to the comedian and television host for more than five decades.

Tom Dreesen was an American stand-up comedian, actor and author whose career in entertainment spanned more than five decades. Born on September 11, 1939, in Harvey, Illinois, Dreesen overcame a difficult childhood marked by poverty before finding success in comedy.

He first gained national attention in the late 1960s as one half of Tim and Tom, a groundbreaking interracial comedy duo with Tim Reid. At a time when such partnerships were rare, the duo broke barriers and appeared on national television shows, helping pave the way for greater diversity in comedy.

After launching a solo career, Dreesen became a popular stand-up performer, appearing onย The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carsonย more than 60 times. His easygoing style and storytelling ability made him a favorite with audiences across the country.

Dreesen is perhaps best known for his close friendship with Frank Sinatra. For nearly 14 years, he toured as Sinatraโ€™s opening act, performing before millions of fans and developing a lasting bond with the legendary singer. He later shared stories from that experience in his memoir,ย Still Standing: My Journey from Streets and Saloons to the Stage, and Sinatra.

In addition to stand-up comedy, Dreesen enjoyed a successful acting career. He appeared in films such asย Spaceballsย andย Man on the Moon, as well as television shows includingย Murder, She Wrote,ย Columboย andย The Larry Sanders Show.

 

 

Known for his warmth, humor and mentorship of younger comedians, Dreesen remained active in entertainment well into his 80s.
